History and background

The site was originally home to the Royal Pavilion, a timber lodge built in 1855 for Queen Victoria and The Royal Family to attend military events.

This was dismantled in 1963 and replaced by the QARANC training centre, which was also later demolished in 1998. The current existing building was completed in 2002 by RTKL Associates, who designed the office complex to be the European headquarters for the Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC).

There are two listings on the site:

  • The grade II listed former guardroom to Royal Pavilion; and

  • The local listed gates to Former Royal Pavilion.

As part of our plans for the site, these structures will be protected and undisturbed.

Current occupation

The building has a capacity of 2,000, but is now vastly underutilised by DXC. As a result, DXC will soon be relocating to smaller premises within the borough, retaining employment and business contribution to the local area.

The structure comprises four similar building wings, with up to six floors each, connected through a two-storey base running the length of the building. There is also a 775-space multi storey car park which does not form part of this planning application.

The current building is classed as an office, falling under Class E (g) of The Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987. The new proposals aim to deliver a state-of- the-art health, diagnostics and wellness clinic, offering a full range of facilities to support personal health improvement. This facility will be run by healthcare provider HCA Healthcare.
